Eddy Carmona Re-Signed

The back up cannon Eddy Carmona will be back this spring, summer and fall.  There is also speculation that the Raiders are looking to add a veteran TE presence.

Some possible Veteran TEs that still remain unsigned:

Kellen Winslow (last with New England)
Dante Rosario (last with San Diego)

Consensus Top 34 Still Available: Day 3

Today, the Raiders own the #100 pick in the 4th...they pick 3rd overall on Day 3...ahead of them are the Jaguars and Chiefs, and, conveniently, QB's Matt Barkley and Ryan Nassib are both available.  Barkley to Jags and Nassib to Chiefs seem to make the most sense? (just going by weather)

The Raiders are stacked in the 6th...have 3 picks, #172, #176 and #205.  A lot of options at Tight End, Running Back and Quarterback late for Oakland...and fallers.

Oakland also has a 7th Round pick at #209...their final pick (possibly).

We'd love to see the Raiders somehow bridge the gap from #100 to #172, via trade down in the 4th...however, it's understandable that they could use that #100 pick on a really good player who has fallen into their laps.  Exciting to see how Reggie plays it, and if a QB is available, who could trade up for him?

More Hayden Stuff...

Thank you to RaiderCentral on YouTube:

BoJack247's Top Raiders Prospects on Day 2

Round 1 is in the books.  Oakland found a trading partner in Miami, and in the process, nabbed impressive CB DJ Hayden of Houston and got themselves a pick in round 2.  With the 42nd pick, what direction will GM Reggie McKenzie go next?  Here are my top 10 players that fit the Raiders' needs in the 2nd and 3rd round on Day 2:

1. DT Johnathan Hankins Ohio State - Even with the FA additions of Vance Walker and Pat Sims, there's still need for both depth and talent at the position.  Hankins is a nimble big man who's versatile enough to play in any defensive scheme.  He's quick enough to disrupt the backfield to rush the passer and strong enough to make an impact against the run.

2. DE Cornellius Carradine Florida State - Carradine was projected to go late in the first round, and he's not expected to last past the first few picks of the 2nd round.  His ability to run after suffering an ACL injury late in the college season is promising.  Carradine was very productive opposite Bjoern Werner.  I think he will be gone by the time the Raiders pick, but he's one of the top prospects left at a position of need.

3. LB Manti Te'o Notre Dame - Te'o's ego must be bruised.  After being linked heavily to the Vikings, they went elsewhere with their first two 1st round picks.  When they traded back into the 1st, most thought Te'o was a lock.  Wrong.  It doesn't take away from the fact that Te'o is a very productive linebacker and a team leader.  He'd be the leader that Rolando McClain never was.  With 3 LB signings, its not an immediate need, but it is a great value pick.

4. FS DJ Swearinger South Carolina - With newly selected DJ Hayden in tow, the Raiders secondary looks a little more promising.  What the Raiders are now lacking is a physical presence at safety and the addition of Swearinger could go a long way.  He can line up at multiple positions in a pinch and his ability to drop the hammer makes him one of my favorite prospects left.  Besides, having "Jungle Boi" come out during the pre-game player introductions to Welcome to the Jungle would be pretty sweet.

5. WR Da'Rick Rogers Tennessee Tech - The current group of Raiders WRs have a lot of promise and ability, but none in that group have true #1 WR ability.  Rogers is probably the most physical WR in the draft and has talent to dominate the opposition.  He punishes CBs and simply outruns safeties.  If Reggie and company are confident that Rogers can straighten himself out on and off the field, he'd be a great addition in the 3rd round.

6. TE Vance McDonald Rice - Most people would probably put Zach Ertz on this list, but I highly doubt Ertz will be available when the Raiders pick in the 2nd round.  I think Ertz goes to the 49ers, who need a replacement for Delanie Walker.  The Raiders have been reportedly interested in McDonald, who is a very talented pass catcher.  He's got very good hands and can make defenders miss in space.  McDonald will need to learn how to block inline, something he wasn't asked to do at Rice.

7. WR Keenan Allen Cal - Many people were disappointed in Allen's slow 40 time, but that's never been the big receiver's game.  He's a prospect who mirrors Anquan Boldin's skill set, a guy who runs clean routes and makes plays after the catch.  He does have some concerns with injuries and his inability to come back from it in a timely manner.  Still he would be a good value on day 2.

8. OG Brian Winters Kent State - The Raiders coaching staff and scouts got a good look at Winters during Senior Bowl week and he performed well against tougher competition.  Winters fits the new scheme better than last year's OG pick Tony Bergstrom.  He's a former wrestler who plays with a mean streak.

9. DT Kawann Short Purdue - One of the more underrated prospects in this draft, Short is a gap penetrating inside defender.  Having to replace 3 defensive tackles is a tough task, but an addition like Short would bring a pass rushing element from the inside the the Raiders do not have right now on their roster.

10. DE Damontre Moore Texas A&M - Moore's stock has fallen precipitously and it could be of benefit to the Raiders.  Workout numbers aside, Moore was productive for 3 years at College Station, showing he could make plays as a OLB and as a DE as well.  Moore would fit a huge need for the pass rush starving Raiders.  If Moore can commit to being a good football player and has his head on straight, he could be a good selection at pick 42.

Next 10: DT Brandon Williams, DE Alex Okafor, RB Jonathan Franklin, WR Justin Hunter, TE Gavin Escobar, LB Kevin Reddick, FS Bacarri Rambo, OG Larry Warford, DE Corey Lemonier, OT Brennan Williams

Russ Lande weighs in as Round 2 is set to take off today:

DITW, Best Available for Oakland: Day 2

DustInTheWind weighs in...

Top 10 available: Day 2

These are Raider specific and will exclude some really good players like CB Jamar Taylor that I simply don't see Reggie McKenzie drafting for various reasons, despite their talent.

1.  DE Cornellius Carradine, FSU
Many believe he would have been one of the top pass rushers if not for his injury this past season and even with that many thought he could still sneak into the draft's first round.  Now on Day 2 he could be a top option for both Jacksonville and Oakland, two teams that were terrible at getting to the QB last year.  The medical concerns are the biggest worry here, but Hayden's brush with death didn't seem to scare the Raiders one bit.

2.  DT Jesse Williams, Alabama
The Raiders defensive line is quite an unknown right now with new additions at almost every position via FA.  Williams could be the new anchor of this unit, as well as a disruptive force that shows quick feet and agility that a man his size shouldn't possess.  There are medical concerns here as well since Williams has reportedly had several knee operations.

3.  WR Justin Hunter, Tennessee
There is a lot of potential currently at WR for the Raiders, but adding a "true" #1 WR could pay dividends for the offense and team moving forward.  Hunter can be that type of player for the Raiders as he's physically gifted and shows the ability to run every kind of route -- work underneath or stretch the field.

4.  DE Damontre Moore, Texas A&M
Despite having an awful offseason, Moore has shown he can consistently get to the QB against top compeition in college.  He's not an athletic freak like Ansah or Mingo, but he is a pass rusher that has experience as a OLB and 4-3 end.  The Raiders current DL coach was with him at Texas A&M and Coach Allen is an alum, given Moore's young age (will be on 21 at the start of this year) they may believe they can mold him into a force off the edge.

5.  OG Larry Warford, Kentucky
While I believe Bergstrom can and will be a starting guard for the Raiders this year adding a talented bulldozer in Warford could only help the run and pass games.  He's a force that gave Sheldon Richardson (a 1st round pick) fits last year.

6.  WR Keenan Allen, Cal
Good route runner who always shows a knack for creating seperation and making the catch. Again, here is a player with an injury history.  The entire Raiders staff showed up for Cal's pro day and prior to that I assure you the scouting department did their job and know what Allen could offer an NFL team.

7.  RB Eddie Lacy, Alabama
I know many fans are not excited by the rumors that Reggie McKenzie is a big fan of Lacy.  While we do have DMC and added Rashad Jennings this offseason this pick would offer some stability moving forward as this McFadden's contract year and he seems unable to make it through an entire season.  Lacy reminds me of Marshawn Lynch and having that type of back on the team can only be a good thing.

8.  S Johnathan Cyprien, FIU
Reggie McKenzie addressed the position in FA, but adding a talented player like Cyprien, who has shown the range, awareness, and physicality needed to be force at the position would help out the rest of the defense.  I have him so far down the list here because I have a feeling the Bengals will draft him at #37 as I thought they were targeting him in Round 1.  If he's actually still avaliable when the Raiders make their pick it would be hard not to have him #1 on this list.

9.  TE Zach Ertz, Stanford
I'm not overly excited by this guy, but word is the Raiders really like him, he's a local kid and the tight end spot seems like a huge void on offense right now.  While I believe good options at the postition could be had later I can see why he could be the pick.  Has shown the skills needed to stretch the field as a pass catcher and shows the willingness to block, though this is an area I think he needs to work on.

10.  DE Alex Okafor, Texas
I feel like Okafor is really underrated and more than capable of starting at DE or OLB in this league.  A talented aggressive player that shows good awareness and hand use.  Can play the pass and run with similar ease.

Day 2 is Here

Time for the money rounds in this Draft...Could Reggie trade down from No. 42 again?  We'll see...

There will be "Best Available" analysis this morning and afternoon.

NFL Draft Rumblings: Day 1

(4:28 pm PT): Dion Jordan's name being linked to Oakland at No. 3.  Fisher/Joeckel all but locked at 1 and 2...one way or another (trades).

(2:12 pm PT): That "Chiefs inform Luke Joeckel" information is 99% BS.  AFC West rival messing with the Oakland phone lines indirectly.  Nothing final until about 3 hours from now.  However, it doesn't mean the news associated with the rumor will make it any less untrue.  Also, there are trades on the table for KC apparently, whether they're good enough for Reid in Co., who knows.

(1:44 pm PT): Little tidbits here and there.  NY Giants may be in the market for Manti Te'o, they pick at No. 19, one spot ahead of the Bears who just lost Urlacher.

(1:18 pm PT): There's word that Luke Joeckel has been contacted by the Kansas City Chiefs.  The news may not have been what he wanted to hear...take it as you will...and it's possible the story is bull.

(1:07 pm PT): Really weird rumor on Twitter now that the Raiders are taking D.J. Hayden at No. 3.  Don't see that at all.

(11:50 am PT): Latest from DA and 2012 Raider Draft Review (Thanks to RaiderCentral)

(9:13 am PT): The supposed deal with the Raiders from Atlanta is apparently very real, and it is sounding more and more likely that the Raiders will take it (on par with previous Julio Jones deal).  There is also news that there are numerous offers to Jacksonville to potentially leap from Oakland...however, the previous news of Jacksonville foregoing a trade down to select Ziggy Ansah could indeed still happen. Holding that 3rd Offensive Tackle (Lane Johnson) may be the best option if Atlanta deal doesn't happen.  Reggie getting a load of phone calls.

(7:35 am PT): At this point don't expect any Mock Drafts from ORDW...it's all going to be trades.  However, if there was a Top 5 "For Oakland" right now at the No. 3 spot, they would include: 1. Eric Fisher 2. Dion Jordan 3. Luke Joeckel 4. Ezekiel Ansah 5. Star Lotulelei.  Ansah being the biggest risk/reward.

(7:22 am PT): St. Louis Rams actively shopping their No. 22 pick.

Thursday, 4/25 (7:00 am PT): It would appear that there are several teams linked to Oakland in a trade up.  Those teams are Detroit (No. 5), Cleveland (No. 6), Miami (No. 12), Minnesota (No.'s 23 and 25)Atlanta (No. 30) and San Francisco (No. 31).

Thursday, 4/25 (5:40 am PT):  Jacksonville now sounds like they will take the faller of the Joeckel/Fisher sweepstakes at No. 1.  Possibly wait for a trade down partner...this would leave Oakland in a position to trade the rights for Lane Johnson, who has been linked to the Eagles at No. 4.  This flies in the previous idea that Ezekiel Ansah was their man no matter what, but perhaps the value of dropping spots and gaining picks in this draft is starting to weight on Dave Caldwell.  Almost all scenarios at this point lead to Oakland being able to trade down, or draft one of the top two rated DEs in this class (Dion Jordan & Ezekiel Ansah) or just drafting Lane Johnson outright, or perhaps Star Lotulelei.

JUST DRAFT BABY!

Around the NFL: Draft News

Wed. Night (9:25pm PT): Kansas City seems to be leaning to Eric Fisher.  Apparently, the consensus is all but in.

Wed. Night (7:45pm PT): Cleveland "definitely looking pass rusher"...seems like Dion Jordan is the target, if he makes it to No. 3, the Browns may trade up for him, cutting the Eagles out of the loop.  Word is that Ansah and the Jaguars may very well be a lock (Bradley just going for it, getting his guy).

Wed. Night (5:10pm PT): Seems Cleveland is acquiring WR Davone Bess from Miami for "mid-round picks".

The Latest Trade Talk

Right now Detroit and Atlanta are the hot topics...but Atlanta is a dark horse...they gave a supposed "take it or leave it" trade scenario that involved multiple picks, several from 2013 but also some spread into 2014 as well as 2015.

Nothing finalized, but the following deal was hypothesized from the Falcons...:

Atlanta gets #3 overall pick worth 2,200 points Raiders get:

2013 1st round #30 worth 620 points

2013 2nd round #60 worth 300

points 2013 4th round #127 worth 45 points

2013 6th round #198 worth 12 points

2014 1st round pick estimated at #30 worth 620 points

2014 3rd round pick estimated at #92 worth 132 points

2014 5th round pick estimated at #163 worth 26 points 2015

2nd round pick estimated worth 300 points

2015 3rd round pick estimated worth 132 points

Throw in a few 7th round picks here and there worth 2 points a pop.
